60 Seconds with a Safelite AutoGlass Tech: Jacob C.
Name: Jacob C.
How did you get started as a technician?* While working for a previous employer, a coworker had mentioned her husband worked for Safelite, and they were currently looking to hire someone. At the time my wife and I were expecting our first child so I thought it could be a great career opportunity.
What’s the best thing about being a technician? The best part of being a technician here at Safelite is the people – from my coworkers who are more like a family at this point, always having each other’s back, to the customers and the ability to really help someone in a bad spot. In some cases I have the opportunity to really turn their day around. There’s so much satisfaction in hearing that a customer has called in or emailed the store about how I was able to make their day a little better.
What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had at Safelite? About 3 or 4 years ago, I helped a woman traveling home after visiting family when she encountered an unexpected problem. She was unlucky enough to have her windshield catch a huge piece of rubber from a semi -truck that had blown a tire. Her windshield was completely caved in, covering her and her two toddlers with glass. Her car was not even drivable so I replaced it at a truck stop she managed to pull into. After getting her glass replaced and everything cleaned up, she was actually in tears because she initially thought they would be stuck there for the night.
Outside of work, what are you passionate about? There are two things I’m particularly passionate about – one is my family, and the second is motorcycles. I love working on them almost as much as I love riding. There’s nothing that makes me feel more alive than the vibration and sound of my Harley Davidson cruising down the road.
Just for fun: What’s your dream car? 2017 Z06 Corvette
